Matthias Zurbriggen (1856-1917) was a Swiss mountain guide and mountaineer. He is best known for his role in the first ascent of Aconcagua, the highest peak in South America, in 1897. Zurbriggen also climbed extensively in the Alps and was involved in several first ascents there. He worked as a mountain guide for many years, guiding clients on climbs throughout Europe and South America. Zurbriggen was also a keen photographer and documented many of his expeditions with photographs. He wrote a book, "In the Alps and the Andes", which detailed his climbing adventures. Zurbriggen died in Argentina in 1917, where he had lived for many years.
